I've created the mailing list. Anyone can subscribe by sending an email
to nano501-subscribe at lists.nanohub.org; the subject/body of this message
don't matter.
Does it make sense to advertise this list on the nano501 page of
nanoHUB? Would someone from Stanford really be interested in this list?
It seems to me to be more relevant to Purdue people, as it will contain
announcements of seminars and logistical chatter. If someone really
wanted to keep tabs on new content in nano501, we should probably create
an RSS feed or add a filter to the "What's New" page, or something like
that.
In the mean time, we can tell all of the Purdue people to subscribe by
sending email as above, or by visiting the list information page:

I think there are several paths to build subscriber ship.
Each email should have instructions on how to subscribe/unsubscribe.
Then it
just becomes part of the emails already distributed. I think
the 501 page should promote subscription as well. I think the measure
of success will be if we start to get subscribers outside of Purdue.
i.e., they want to know when a new talk is available on the nanoHUB.
We should also anounce it at each lecture.
as well as making sure the "seminar" oriented classes are well informed.
Regards,
Joe

Subject: Re: nano501 list
Professor Nolte's lecture on Quantum Computing has been moved
from Friday at
10:30am to Monday the 23rd at 1pm (which will be the usual time
for this
series). There was a conflict with another lecture on the same
topic at the
same time. The room is still the same (MSEE 239). We should
really work on
getting this email list created so it can be used to advertise
for that
lecture. I should receive a title and abstract from him today
or tomorrow and
I will pass that on.
I am also a little bit curious as to how we should get people to
sign up for
the nano501 mailing list. Obviously, there will have to be some
mass emails
to the ECE, maybe MSEE, and maybe physics departments telling
people to sign
up for the list if they're interested? Maybe that should be
something
professor Lundstrom does so it has some weight? Or will it be
sent by
secretaries or anonymously anyway so it doesn't matter who
requests it?
